Sista Afia opens up about fears of single motherhood

Ghanaian musician Sista Afia has opened up about her fears of becoming a single mother as she shares what she wants from future motherhood.

The singer said she is not afraid of having children. However, she worries about raising a child without the love, commitment and family structure she hopes to build.

Sista Afia explains her biggest fear

Sista Afia shared her thoughts about motherhood on social media while reflecting on the growing number of single mothers.

“Seeing how many single mothers there are in this generation honestly scares me,” she said.

For the musician, the issue is not motherhood itself. Instead, she fears finding herself in a situation where she has a child but does not have the committed family she wants.

“I’m not afraid of motherhood, but I’m afraid of becoming a single mother or just a ‘baby mama’ without the love, commitment, and family I always envisioned,” she wrote.

Sista Afia wants more than just motherhood

Sista Afia said her dream is to build a home rather than simply have a child.

“I want to build a home, not just have a child. And honestly, that fear scares the hell out of me,” she added.

Her comments show that marriage or a committed relationship is an important part of how she views motherhood.

She wants to raise a child within a stable family setting and share that responsibility with the child’s father.

Her past relationship comments add context

Sista Afia’s latest comments also come after she previously spoke about her relationship life.

In a 2025 interview on The Delay, she disclosed that she had not been in a committed relationship for about eight years because of her feelings for a particular man.

“It is because the person I love does not love me. There is someone I love, but he does not love me,” she said at the time.

She explained that she had made efforts to show the man how much she cared, but his feelings were not equally strong.

“I have time for him, but he does not have time for me. So that is why I said I love him more than he loves me,” Sista Afia disclosed.

Sista Afia remains focused on the family she wants

The musician later said she was still single and that the man knew about her feelings.

“I’m still single. He knows himself, and because of him, I haven’t been in a proper relationship for the past eight years,” she said.

Her latest remarks therefore provide more insight into the kind of relationship she wants before becoming a mother.

Rather than rushing into motherhood, Sista Afia appears to want a committed partnership that gives her the opportunity to build the family she has envisioned.

The singer is known for songs including Jeje, featuring Shatta Wale and Afezi Perry, Kro Kro No featuring Bisa Kdei, Slay Queen, Weather, Paper and Sika.
