Yaa Jackson’s Father defends her fashion choices, urges respect for her independence

Mr. Jackson K. Bentum, father of actress and singer Yaa Jackson, has spoken out in defense of his daughter’s sense of style, urging critics to respect her personal choices.

Speaking in a recent interview, the veteran filmmaker responded to public backlash over Yaa’s often bold and expressive fashion. He acknowledged the commentary but made it clear that his daughter is an adult capable of making her own decisions.

“I’ve seen what people say about her, but Yaa is grown now. I may be her father, but I can’t dictate her dressing. She has her life to live, and I respect that,” Mr. Bentum said.

He emphasized that while he once had greater influence over her choices when she was younger, Yaa now has the freedom to shape her identity. “I did my part in raising her with values. The rest is for her to decide. She’s not a child anymore.”

Mr. Bentum’s remarks offer a calm and thoughtful perspective on parenting in the public eye, particularly when a child becomes a public figure themselves. He called on Ghanaians to allow Yaa the space to grow, evolve, and express herself as an artist and individual.

Yaa Jackson, known for her fearless expression and music, has often been at the center of online debates, especially around her appearance. Yet, her father’s words remind the public that growth and self-expression are natural parts of adulthood — even under the spotlight.
