    DZASETSE Teshie Traditional Area

In a significant moment for the people of Teshie, tradition and continuity took centre stage on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, as Warrant Officer Class One Joseph Ashitey Hammond was formally presented as the Dzasetse of the Teshie Traditional Area.

The ceremony, led by Family Head of Ashitey We, Daniel Nii Ashitei Amarh, marked a defining step in reaffirming customary leadership structures within the Ga community. With this introduction, Hammond assumes one of the most influential traditional roles in Teshie, serving as the Kingmaker responsible for guiding chieftaincy matters and succession.

A role rooted in authority and heritage

Now bearing the stool name NII ASHITEY OTSWANSU III, Hammond’s position as Dzasetse places him at the heart of traditional governance. The role carries significant responsibility, particularly in preserving lineage, mediating succession processes, and ensuring adherence to long-established customs.

His formal introduction was made before the Council of Elders in a gathering that underscored unity and legitimacy. Present at the ceremony was Nii Nortey Tuaka III, Shippi of Teshie, alongside representatives from the five quarters of Teshie and traditional authorities.

    Affirmation of longstanding rulings

Importantly, the ceremony reinforces earlier decisions made within the chieftaincy framework. The appointment aligns with recommendations issued by the Dodowa House of Chiefs in 2013, which were subsequently reaffirmed in 2018. These rulings have now been fully actualised through the formal presentation, signalling a resolution that strengthens institutional continuity.

This development is widely seen as a consolidation of traditional authority in Teshie, ensuring that leadership structures remain consistent with both customary law and previously recognised decisions.

    Unity across the five quarters

The event drew representation from all five quarters of Teshie, highlighting a shared commitment, reflecting both communal support and broader recognition of Teshie Dzasetse’s new role.

A defining moment for Teshie’s future

As Dzasetse of Teshie and Head of the Lenshie Quarter, Nii Ashitey Otswansu III steps into a position that not only honours heritage but also shapes the future of Teshie’s chieftaincy landscape. His role as Kingmaker places him at a critical intersection of traditional leadership and cultural preservation.

The ceremony of May 6, 2026, will likely be remembered as a pivotal moment, one that reinforces the resilience of Ga customs and the enduring importance of structured traditional authority in modern Ghana.
