A delegation from the United Nations Peace Ambassadors Foundation (UN-PAF) has paid a courtesy call on the National Chief Imam, His Eminence Sheikh Dr. Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, at his residence in Fadama, Accra.
The visit, held on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, focused on strengthening collaboration in peacebuilding, youth empowerment and national cohesion.
The delegation was led by the African Patron of UN-PAF, Amb. Dr. Emmanuel Whyte. He was accompanied by the African High Commissioner of UN-PAF, HRH Amb. Dr. Razak Toure, Executive Secretary of UN-PAF, Mr. Emmanuel Kwaku Antwi, and other senior officials of the Foundation.
During the meeting, Amb. Dr. Whyte commended the National Chief Imam for his decades of service and leadership in promoting religious tolerance, peace and unity in Ghana and beyond.
He described Sheikh Dr. Sharubutu as a beacon of hope and a moral voice whose guidance remains important to the country’s youth and wider society.
“We believe that lasting peace begins with the youth, and there is no better partner in this mission than a father and leader like His Eminence. Your voice and guidance are critical in shaping a generation that chooses dialogue over conflict,” Amb. Dr. Whyte stated.
The delegation also briefed the National Chief Imam on UN-PAF’s initiatives across Africa, including youth leadership training, peace advocacy campaigns and empowerment programmes aimed at equipping young people with skills for sustainable development.
According to Amb. Dr. Whyte, the Foundation believes that young people have a central role to play in building lasting peace.
He said the organisation considers the National Chief Imam an important partner in its efforts to encourage young people to choose dialogue and peaceful coexistence over conflict.
HRH Amb. Dr. Razak Toure also reaffirmed UN-PAF’s commitment to working with traditional, religious and community leaders to promote grassroots peace initiatives.
He further highlighted the need to strengthen the role of young people as ambassadors of peace within their communities.
Mr. Emmanuel Kwaku Antwi disclosed that UN-PAF is rolling out mentorship and entrepreneurship programmes for young people across the country.
He subsequently sought the support and blessing of the National Chief Imam for the successful implementation of the initiatives.
In response, His Eminence Sheikh Dr. Osman Nuhu Sharubutu expressed appreciation to the delegation for the visit and commended UN-PAF for its work in promoting peace and youth development.
The National Chief Imam reaffirmed his support for initiatives that promote peace, unity and the development of young people.
He also urged the youth to reject violence, pursue education and become positive agents of change in their communities.
The meeting concluded with prayers for peace in Ghana, Africa and the world.
