Ghanaian artiste Annumah is preparing to introduce audiences to a deeply personal side of her artistry with the release of her debut EP, Lost To Love, scheduled for August 29, 2026.
Signed to Metrogold Records, Annumah describes herself as an artiste who uses music to express emotions, experiences, and stories that people can see themselves in. For her, music goes beyond simply recording songs. It is about creating moments and giving listeners something they can genuinely feel.
As the countdown to Lost To Love continues, Annumah is opening the door to the emotions, experiences and creative process behind the six-track project.
“I see myself as an artiste who uses music to express emotions, experiences and stories that people can relate to,” she tells TrenderHQ. “I’m still growing and discovering different sides of myself musically, but I would describe my sound as emotional, honest and versatile.”
A journey built around expression
Annumah’s journey into music began with a simple desire to express herself. What started as something she naturally enjoyed gradually developed into a serious career ambition as she spent more time recording, sharing her music and learning the craft.
The decision to pursue music professionally was also influenced by the emotional connection she found in songwriting.
“I realised that if music could make me feel certain things, I could also use my voice and my story to make someone else feel understood,” she says.
That desire to make people feel understood sits at the heart of Lost To Love.
The six-track EP features Lost It All, Odo, Found Him, Tonight, Wedding Day and Selele. While each song has its own identity, Annumah says the project collectively explores different sides of love and relationships, including affection, vulnerability, desire, commitment, confusion, heartbreak and hope.
Why ‘Lost To Love’?
The title of the EP is perhaps the clearest indication of the emotional territory Annumah wants to explore.
For her, being “lost to love” is not simply about heartbreak. It is about what can happen when someone becomes so emotionally invested in another person that they begin to lose sight of themselves.
“Sometimes you find yourself completely invested in someone or something, and along the way you can lose parts of yourself,” she explains.
Yet Annumah does not view being lost as necessarily being broken. Instead, she sees it as part of the process of understanding oneself.
“Sometimes you have to get lost emotionally before you find a better understanding of yourself,” she says.
That perspective gives the project a broader meaning. Rather than presenting love as either beautiful or painful, Lost To Love attempts to explore the complicated space between the two.
Some of the songs draw from Annumah’s personal emotions and experiences, while others were inspired by situations she has observed or stories that people around her have experienced.
The result, she hopes, is a project that feels honest rather than manufactured.
‘Lost It All’ reveals a vulnerable side
Among the six songs, Lost It All holds a particularly personal place for Annumah.
The song explores the fear of losing someone deeply important and the uncertainty that can emerge when a relationship begins to change. For an artiste whose music is strongly rooted in emotion, it represents one of the more vulnerable sides of her personality.
“It speaks about the fear of losing someone you deeply care about and the confusion that can come when love starts changing,” she says.
Her songwriting process itself is equally personal. Sometimes an emotion or situation sparks an idea. At other times, a melody arrives first, followed by the words.
Regardless of how a song begins, Annumah says she wants the final product to remain authentic to who she is.
Even when collaborating with other creatives, she wants the music to retain her voice and emotional identity.
Building the sound of the EP
Annumah describes Lost To Love as emotional, melodic and versatile. Although the project maintains a consistent emotional identity, she deliberately avoided restricting herself to one sound.
There are reflective and vulnerable moments, alongside songs designed simply to be enjoyed.
“I didn’t want to put myself in one box,” she says.
The project was developed through a process of recording, listening back, making changes, and gradually understanding the direction she wanted to take.
For Annumah, creating the EP was not simply a matter of recording six songs and putting them together. She wanted the songs to connect and form a larger story. She acknowledges that the process came with moments of excitement as well as uncertainty, but ultimately, the experience helped her understand herself better as an artiste.
Crediting her label, Metrogold Records, alongside producers Daremamebeat and Gally Beatz, Annumah gave gratitude to them for playing important roles in shaping the sound and direction of the project.
An artwork that signals a new era
Before the music arrives, Annumah has already given audiences a visual introduction to the project through the official Lost To Love artwork.
Designed by Ali Skerro, the artwork represents more than just the cover of a debut EP. According to Annumah, it symbolises the foundation of a longer journey.
Because Lost To Love marks her first major body of work, she wanted the artwork to communicate the beginning of a new era.
“I wanted people to feel curious. I wanted them to look at it and understand that there is a story behind it,” she says.
For Annumah, visuals are an important part of building that story. Photography, artwork, music videos and other visual elements all have a role to play in helping audiences understand the world surrounding her music.
Finding herself through love
At the centre of Lost To Love is a lesson Annumah says she has learned through her experiences with love: loving someone should not mean completely losing yourself.
She believes healthy love requires communication, understanding and honesty. Even difficult emotional experiences, she says, can carry lessons that remain valuable long after the experience has ended.
Those difficult moments have also influenced her creativity.
“Heartbreak can be painful, but as an artiste, you can turn that pain into something meaningful that another person can listen to and relate to,” she says.
It is perhaps this ability to transform personal emotion into something relatable that defines the spirit of Lost To Love.
Navigating the industry as a female artiste
Annumah’s journey is also taking place within a Ghanaian music industry where emerging female artistes continue to push for greater visibility and opportunities.
She describes her experience so far as exciting, challenging and educational. However, she believes female artistes sometimes have to work harder to prove their talent and earn their place.
“I manage those challenges by focusing on my music, improving myself and staying true to who I am,” she says.
While she acknowledges the progress being made, Annumah believes more can still be done to support emerging female talent through opportunities, collaborations, media exposure and investment.
She particularly wants to see stronger bridges between emerging female artistes and established names in the industry.
For her, talent exists everywhere, but talent needs the right opportunities to grow.
August 29 marks a beginning, not an ending
With August 29 fast approaching, Annumah sees the release of Lost To Love as much more than the arrival of six songs.
It is an introduction.
She wants listeners to find themselves somewhere within the project, whether through love, heartbreak, confusion, happiness, or vulnerability.
Beyond streaming numbers, her greatest measure of success would be knowing that the music genuinely connected with someone.
“If someone listens to Lost To Love during a difficult moment and feels understood, that means a lot to me,” she says.
There are also plans for activities surrounding the release, including more content, visuals and opportunities for fans to connect with the project. However, Annumah is keeping some of those details under wraps for now.
What she is willing to reveal is that Lost To Love will not be the end of the story.
“It is only the beginning,” she says, promising more music, stronger visuals, performances and continued growth.
For an artiste still discovering different sides of herself, Lost To Love offers Annumah the opportunity to make that discovery public.
And when August 29 arrives, listeners will not simply be hearing a debut EP. They will be meeting an artiste willing to turn love, vulnerability, uncertainty and growth into music.
