Citizen Kafui: the media strategist helping shape Ghana’s entertainment conversations

    Citizen Kafui

Most people know Citizen Kafui as the communications mind behind some of Ghana’s biggest entertainment stories. Others know him as the media relations professional trusted by award-winning singer Gyakie. But before the interviews, the press releases, and the headlines, he was simply a young man with love for computers and after studying network administration at IPMC, took to GBC Obonu Fm for his attahment as an IT support technician.

Born Bernard Kafui Gablah, Citizen Kafui’s career has been anything but conventional. While many communications professionals begin in journalism or public relations, his journey started in information technology, a foundation that would unexpectedly become his gateway into Ghana’s media industry.

“I started as an IT Support Technician with Obonu FM. That’s where I developed my love for radio,” he tells TrenderHQ.

His attachment at GBC Obonu FM gave him his first real exposure to the world of radio. While working there, he began as a producer before later appearing as a guest on programmes. The experience deepened his interest in broadcasting and eventually opened the door for his move into television at GBC.

That curiosity soon became a career.

Finding his place in the media

Citizen Kafui transitioned into television and radio production, where he learned the craft of storytelling, programme production and audience engagement. It was a period that sharpened his understanding of how compelling stories are developed long before they reach the public.

Yet another transition was on the horizon.

Recognising the growing importance of strategic communication in entertainment, he moved into Public Relations and Media Relations full-time, a decision that has since defined his professional identity.

Today, he describes himself simply as a Digital Creator, PR and Media Relations Executive, but those titles barely capture the breadth of his experience.

    A creative who understands creatives

One reason Citizen Kafui connects so naturally with artistes is because he once pursued music himself.

“I started as an artiste and ever since I’ve found myself in the pop culture space, and I really love it,” he says.

That experience gave him something many publicists never have, an insider’s understanding of the pressures, expectations and realities creatives face. Rather than seeing artistes as clients, he understands the journey they are trying to navigate.

It is this perspective that has shaped his approach to publicity and media relations.

Growing into one of entertainment’s trusted communicators

Over the years, Citizen Kafui has steadily built a reputation as one of Ghana’s respected entertainment communicators.

His career includes nearly six years across Omni Media’s platforms, including Channel One TV (formerly Citi TV), Citi FM and GhanaWeekend, where he contributed to entertainment journalism and digital storytelling while building relationships across the industry.

In 2026, he took another significant step by joining 4Syte TV, one of Ghana’s leading entertainment television brands, further expanding his influence within the country’s media landscape.

Alongside journalism, Citizen Kafui has become known for managing the public image of some of Ghana’s notable entertainment personalities. His role as Public Relations and Media Relations Manager for award-winning singer Gyakie has further positioned him as a trusted communications professional capable of balancing media expectations with the long-term interests of the talent he represents.

    More than publicity

For Citizen Kafui, communications is not simply about getting stories published.

    It is about understanding people.

Whether coordinating media interviews, crafting communication strategies or building relationships between brands, journalists and audiences, his work is driven by authenticity and credibility.

His unusual career path, from IT support to production, journalism, digital storytelling and strategic communications, has given him a rare advantage. He understands the technical side of media, appreciates the creative process and recognises what journalists need to tell compelling stories.

That combination has made him an invaluable asset to artistes, brands and organisations looking to strengthen their public image.

    Still writing his story

The name Citizen Kafui has become familiar within Ghana’s entertainment circles, but he sees his journey as one that is still unfolding.

With every campaign, media strategy and story, he continues to contribute to the evolution of Ghana’s entertainment industry, not from the spotlight, but from the strategic position where stories are shaped, reputations are built and meaningful connections are created.
