Chalewote 2025: A wild experience at Independence Square

    Chalewote 2025

Chalewote 2025 was nothing short of electric. This year, just like the previous year, the festival broke away from its usual James Town setting and took over Independence Square in Accra, transforming the iconic landmark into a living canvas of art, music, and culture.

From the very first moment, the atmosphere was charged. Bold murals stretched across temporary walls, dancers filled the open space with energy, and performers moved freely between tradition and experimentation. It was wild, not just in the sense of the unexpected, but in the way creativity refused to be contained.

The crowd came ready for an experience, and Chalewote delivered. Street art bled into fashion, poetry mixed with live drumming, and global visitors blended effortlessly with local creatives. At every corner, something new caught the eye: towering installations, spontaneous parades, and beats that shook the ground beneath Accra’s most historic square.

What made this year special was the scale. Independence Square gave the festival room to breathe, allowing larger performances and grander displays while still holding onto the raw, street-level energy that has always defined Chalewote. It was a reminder that the festival is more than just an event – it’s a living movement of culture, identity, and fearless expression.

As night fell, the square glowed with lights, music, and the unmistakable pulse of Accra. Chalewote 2025 will be remembered not only for its daring shift in location but for proving, once again, that art belongs to the people, in the streets, and under the open sky.
