A man who posted a photo of himself wearing two Rolexes on Instagram was killed when two ladies attempted to rob him of the watches using a date rape drug before one of the two accomplices viciously stabbed him.
Saul Murray, 33, was the target of Surpreet Dhillon, 35, and Temidayo Awe, 21, who met up with him at his Luton home on February 27 and persuaded and stripped him. Ikram Affia, 31, and Cleon Brown, 29, the two males working with the ladies, broke into Murray’s residence to steal his valuables, and Murray was later discovered nude and in a pool of blood in the communal entry to the flats in New Town Street.
CCTV footage shown to the jury at Luton Crown Court showed the women leaving the apartment first, followed by the two men 19 seconds later. A huge knife was visible in Affia’s right hand. Mr. Murray can be seen a short time after the males, according to prosecutor Jane Bickerstaff KC. “He is stumbling around naked. He opens the communal door, trips, and then passes away.”
She said that a night shift worker saw Murray in a pool of blood when she returned home to the apartments an hour and a half later and immediately alerted emergency services. Murray was confirmed dead following a postmortem due to a serious thigh wound. He started bleeding once it entered his femoral artery. According to Bickerstaff, the murder occurred in the wee hours of February 27 of last year when Dhillon contacted Murray over Instagram after Murray shared photos of himself sporting two Rolex watches. The discussion later switched to WhatsApp.
The four defendants drove a Mercedes A Class that Brown had rented from London to Luton late on Saturday, February 26. “They went to Mr. Murray to rob him of what they thought were valuable stuff. They were armed and gang-handed. Ikem Affia carried a blade, “claimed the prosecution. They could not have predicted Saul Murray would hand up his watches and other valuable possessions without putting up any struggle since they knew he would be in his home. Murray and Dhillon engaged in sexual activity before Dhillon used GHB to knock him out. Bickerstaff claims that the four were prepared to use force and agreed to use the sedative drug GHB, a byproduct of date rape, to knock Murray out.
The prosecutor stated that “traces of GHB, which has strong sleep-inducing characteristics, was identified.” It is more frequently acquired through the illicit drug market and is only occasionally prescribed. She continued, “The level discovered in Mr. Murray would corroborate the idea that it had been administered before he passed away. While the two male defendants remained in the car, Murray met the women outside his apartment. The accuser stated: “Ms. Dhillon and Ms. Awe acknowledge bringing GHB into the apartment and providing it to him. They acknowledge that they have set up men before and taken their belongings, including watches, while the men were fast sleeping. GHB was also provided to the men who set up.” She claimed that at some time, there was undoubtedly some intercourse between the two women and Mr. Murray. DNA from both women was found in swabs taken from his face and neck on opposite sides.
Awe, Brown, Dhillon, and Affia were found guilty of manslaughter and found guilty of murder. On Tuesday, a jury determined that Affia, of Hackney, London, had committed murder. Awe of Gillingham, Brown of South Hackney, and Dhillon of London were found guilty of manslaughter. They will receive their punishment afterwards. He was the target of a robbery plot involving all four defendants that took place between February 8 and February 28. Additionally found guilty of possessing a sword was Ikem Affia.
