Nyornuzaze Rebecca is a rising Gospel Highlife star whose voice is healing hearts, restoring hope, and lifting spirits across Ghana and beyond. From the peaceful town of Anfoega Akukome in the Volta Region, she brings a sound that is as powerful as her purpose.
Born Rebecca Mawule Attakuma, her path into music and broadcasting is shaped by divine inspiration, deep-rooted faith, and a desire to serve others. Known affectionately as Afoefa or Nyornuzaze from childhood, she embraced the name Nyornuzaze Rebecca as part of her identity and mission. In Akan, Nyornuzaze means Obaasima—and in English, Virtuous Lady. It’s a name that perfectly reflects her character and calling.
Faith and Family Laid the Foundation
Raised in a strong Christian household, Nyornuzaze Rebecca’s love for music started early. Her father, a music enthusiast, often filled the home with rhythms and melodies, sparking a passion in his children. Her home church, Great Commission Church International (GCCI), nurtured her gift, and by the age of 12, she was leading worship as the youngest in the music ministry.

In school, she became known for her soulful worship sessions at Friday assemblies. “I started writing songs when I was in class six,” she says. “I was about 10. Singing in church made people happy—and that blessed me even more.”
More Than Music—A Divine Calling
For Nyornuzaze Rebecca, music isn’t just performance—it’s spiritual. Her lyrics come from moments of prayer and divine insight. Her songs are filled with messages of hope, healing, and encouragement for anyone facing hardship.
“My songs come to me anytime,” she explains. “When I hear the voice in my spirit, I sing, write, and record it immediately.”
Now worshipping at the Church of Pentecost, E.T. Boye Temple in Amrahia, she launched her debut album on November 3, 2024—a major milestone in her gospel journey.
From Media to Music Breakthroughs
Nyornuzaze Rebecca spent a decade in South Africa as a beautician and hoped to launch her music career there, but life had other plans. After returning to Ghana in 2015, she studied Broadcast Journalism and graduated in 2017.
Her radio journey began with “Mikafu Mawu” on Valley View Radio 97.7FM. The platform became a stepping stone into the music world. Thanks to gospel artist Minister Shika Azasu, she connected with Ogesam Recordz in Ashaiman, where she began professional recordings. She also met Jake Nene Aryee, now her manager and video director.
Nyornuzaze Rebecca’s music is rooted in Gospel Highlife, a genre that blends joyful rhythms with spiritual depth. “I love songs that make people rejoice. Gospel Highlife speaks to both the soul and spirit,” she shares.

Rebecca has released one album with eight original tracks, two music videos, and continues to write and compose all her songs. While she hasn’t collaborated with other artists yet, she’s open to future partnerships.
Her efforts have earned recognition:
