Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah has quietly called out a fan run social media account for a post that he felt crossed the line when referencing former teammates.
On Wednesday (September 3, 2025), the fan page known as Anfield Edition shared a side by side image Luis Díaz and Darwin Núñez in black-and-white next to new signings Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak in full colour with the caption: “Name a bigger upgrade in footballing history.” Salah responded with a gentle reminder to fans: “How about we celebrate the great signings without disrespecting the PL champions?”
The fan account, which boasts over half a million followers, issued a swift apology, clarifying that their intention was to highlight Liverpool’s impressive transfer window not to undermine the contributions of Díaz and Núñez.
The summer has indeed been eventful for the club. Colombian winger Díaz moved to Bayern Munich for around €75 million (or roughly £65.5 million), while Núñez headed to Saudi Arabia’s Al‑Hilal for about €53 million (€53 million) . Liverpool reinvested heavily, signing Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen in a deal worth around £116 million, followed by a record-breaking £125 million move for striker Alexander Isak .
Salah’s intervention highlights a deeper sentiment beyond transfer theatrics respect for those who helped achieve the club’s recent successes. Díaz and Núñez were key in Liverpool’s 20th Premier League title win last season. Díaz finished the season with 13 goals and 7 assists in 36 appearances, while Núñez, though less prolific, was admired for his tireless work rate .
