A Ghanaian military officer’s wife has started an inspiring journey: she is attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the longest marathon reading aloud. The efforts are currently underway at the National Children’s Library, where a group of military officers is showing up to cheer her on.

She plans to surpass the current record of 215 hours and 2 seconds, set by Samson Ajao in Nigeria between May 6 and May 15, 2024. For this challenge, she has assembled supporters who value literacy and believe in the power of storytelling.

The event is attracting attention beyond the military community. Veterans, educators, and local media are following her progress. The support is not just symbolic—it keeps morale high in long stretches of reading. Meanwhile, her effort highlights the importance of promoting reading habits and literacy in Ghana.

This record attempt is significant for several reasons. First, it showcases strength and endurance—both physical and mental. Second, it sends an encouraging message to children and young adults: reading matters. Finally, it reflects how everyday citizens, even those outside the arts or academia, can shine through quiet perseverance.

Many previous record attempts have followed this pattern of endurance meets purpose. For example, Ajao’s journey was physically grueling, as he paused only briefly between hours. Now, this military family is building on that legacy—and adding a heartfelt local dimension.

The reading marathon will continue until the record is broken or until exhaustion sets in. Observers expect many more hours of reading and resolve. At stake is more than a title—it’s a meaningful statement about community, literacy, and determination.

Above all, this story shows how one person’s bold effort can ripple out and inspire many more. As she turns pages, she is turning heads and minds, bringing reading—and achievement—into the spotlight.
