A man with a four-pound tumor on his face is seeking help after doctors warned it could kill him.
Ron’s story appears on the new TLC show “About Face,” which premiered on October 29. The show follows plastic surgeons in Los Angeles who handle difficult facial reconstruction cases.
Ron went to see Dr. Andre Panossian about the tumor, which had been growing on his face for seven years. He had tried to get help before, but other doctors told him the surgery would be too risky.
Previous doctors warned Ron that the operation could cause him to lose an eye or teeth. They also said they might not be able to rebuild his nose. Ron said the procedure sounded like something from Frankenstein, so he decided not to do it.
Dr. Panossian understood why Ron was scared. But the doctor said the tumor must be removed immediately.
“This tumor needs to come out right now because these types of tumors can be a death sentence,” Dr. Panossian said.
The surgeon called it intense to see such a large tumor on someone’s face. He stressed that waiting any longer could be deadly for Ron.
The show highlights the challenges patients face when they need complex facial surgeries and the doctors who try to help them.
