Ghanaian international Kamaldeen Sulemana has described playing for the Black Stars as a moment he had long dreamed of. The young forward, who recently joined Italian side Atalanta, said representing Ghana is a career highlight that continues to motivate him.
Speaking to media following his unveiling at Atalanta, Sulemana reflected on his national team journey. “Playing for Ghana is a dream come true. Every time I wear the jersey, it’s emotional,” he said.
The 22-year-old winger first featured for the Black Stars in 2020. Though his role has fluctuated due to competition and injuries, he remains optimistic about making a strong return to the national starting lineup.
Sulemana admitted that the journey hasn’t been smooth, but he draws strength from his belief in progress and growth. Every player wants to be part of big tournaments like the World Cup and AFCON. I’m working towards that every day,” he shared.
At club level, his recent move from Southampton to Atalanta presents a new opportunity. Sulemana says playing in Serie A will improve his tactical awareness and goal contribution. “This is a chance to reset and grow. I’m ready to prove myself again,” he added.
The winger also addressed the pressure that comes with wearing Ghana’s national colors. “You play for over 30 million people. The expectations are high, but that pressure sharpens you.”
Although he’s often praised for his flair and dribbling, Sulemana has been self-critical about his statistics. “I don’t want to be known only as an entertainer. I want to score more, assist more, and be decisive,” he said in a recent interview.
Kamaldeen Sulemana’s story is still unfolding, but for him, being a Black Star is more than football—it’s pride, responsibility, and the fulfilment of a childhood dream.
