Police in Accra have arrested a man who posed as a gold dealer and defrauded a Ghanaian-American investor of $83,000.

The suspect, identified as Fuseini Mohammed, convinced the victim that he could supply large quantities of gold for export. He allegedly used fake documents and samples to make the deal appear legitimate.

Investigators say Mohammed collected the money under the pretense of processing the gold shipment but later disappeared. The victim reported the matter to the police after realizing the transaction was fraudulent.

Detectives tracked and arrested the suspect in Accra. During interrogation, he admitted to taking the money but claimed he was working with other individuals who are currently on the run.

The police are pursuing his accomplices and have recovered some of the fake documents used in the transaction. Authorities have advised the public to be cautious when engaging in gold-related business deals and to verify licenses with the Minerals Commission before making any payments.
