Ghanaian sprinter Edwin Gadayi delivered a strong performance at the CAA Region II Senior Athletics Championships in Accra. He finished second in the men’s 200m final with a time of 21.14 seconds, securing the silver medal for Ghana.

The race was highly competitive. Nigeria’s Chidera Ezeakor edged past Gadayi to take the gold medal, while fellow Ghanaian sprinter Marizuk Shaibu completed the podium with bronze after clocking 21.21 seconds.

After the event, Gadayi admitted he was not fully satisfied with his performance. He expressed disappointment that he missed out on gold but also shared pride in representing Ghana on home soil. His reaction showed the high expectations he sets for himself as one of the country’s top sprinting prospects.

    gadayi’s rising track career

At just 23 years old, Gadayi has already built a strong reputation in African athletics. The University of Cape Coast student holds Ghana’s national 200m record with a time of 20.848 seconds, achieved in 2022 at Cape Coast. He has also represented Ghana at major events, including the African Games and the World Athletics Relays.

This silver medal adds to his growing list of achievements and signals his consistency at top competitions. Competing in front of a home crowd also highlighted Ghana’s strength in sprinting, especially with two athletes making the podium.

why this matters for ghana athletics

Gadayi’s success is a boost for Ghanaian athletics. It shows the country’s sprinters can compete with some of the best in West Africa. His progress also inspires upcoming athletes who are looking to break into the continental stage.

With the national record under his belt and more international experience ahead, Gadayi remains one of Ghana’s brightest medal hopes in short-distance races. His drive for improvement suggests he is far from done and could achieve even more in upcoming championships.
