The night of Saturday saw a glowing wave of love and nostalgia sweep across Ghana’s iconic Black Star Square, as hundreds gathered for Daddy Lumba’s National Candlelight Vigil. The emotional tribute drew together music lovers, industry giants, and devoted fans to honour the living legend whose influence on Ghanaian music spans decades.

Held at the National Independence Square, the vigil was a rare and deeply moving celebration of a national icon. Attendees arrived bearing candles, many dressed in Daddy Lumba-branded apparel, as a symbolic show of unity and gratitude for the highlife legend’s timeless contribution to Ghana’s cultural heritage.

The atmosphere was both spiritual and festive. As night fell, the flickering glow of candles lit up the square, while Lumba’s classic songs echoed across the grounds, triggering sing-alongs, tears, and warm embraces.

Among the many celebrities and personalities who came to show their respect were Sarkodie, Kwabena Kwabena, Efia Odo, and other beloved names from Ghana’s entertainment world. Their presence underscored just how far-reaching Daddy Lumba’s influence has been, transcending generations and genres.

In brief tributes delivered during the vigil, several artists and fans described Daddy Lumba as “a cultural treasure,” “a father of modern highlife,” and “the soundtrack of our lives.” Many shared personal stories of how his songs impacted them, from moments of heartbreak to weddings and national events.

The media, including television crews and digital platforms, were also present, capturing the sights and sounds of the unforgettable evening. Social media buzzed with photos and live videos from the event, with hashtags like #LumbaVigil, #CandlelightForLumba, and #LivingLegend trending.

Organisers of the vigil noted that the event was not a farewell, but a celebration of life and impact. “Daddy Lumba is alive, and he deserves to see the love now, not when he’s gone,” one speaker remarked, drawing loud applause from the crowd.

As the night wound down, fans stood shoulder to shoulder, candles held high, singing along to “Aben Wo Ha” and “Theresa,” two of Lumba’s most iconic tracks. The vigil closed with a heartfelt prayer for the artist’s health, longevity, and continued musical inspiration.
