On Sunday, August 10, 2025, Most Rev. Gabriel Justice Anokye, the Catholic Archbishop of Kumasi, led a delegation of clergy and senior Church of Ghana officials to Manhyia Palace. They met with His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, to express condolences following the passing of the Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III

    The delegation included:
    • Most Rev. Paul Kwabena Boafo (Methodist Presiding Bishop)
    • Most Rev. Peter Kwesi Sarpong (Catholic Archbishop Emeritus)
    • Anglican representatives—Bishop Cyril Kobina Ben‑Smith and others from the Church of Ghana .
This visit highlights the deep respect and unity between religious leaders and the Ashanti royal household. It reflects the significant spiritual and communal influence of the Asantehemaa—who passed at age 91 on August 7, 2025—as both a cultural and religious pillar in Ashanti society .

    A moment of shared solidarity:
During the visit, Archbishop Anokye and the delegation prayed with the Asantehene and reaffirmed their support for the grieving royal family. The act brought together multiple Christian denominations under one gesture of peace and compassion, reinforcing the Palace’s view of the late queen mother’s life as one of profound service and leadership.

    • The visit from Kumasi’s top clergy is more than formal condolence—it symbolizes the collaborative bond between Ashanti customs and the churches. It reaffirms the Asantehemaa’s legacy as a unifying figure, respected across spiritual and traditional lines.
