Ghanaian passport holders travel visa free to the Maldives, Zambia, and Antigua and Barbuda following newly ratified bilateral agreements. Consequently, Ghanaian travelers can now explore these three destinations without the hassle of securing pre-entry visas.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the execution of the waiver pacts in an official public notice. Furthermore, officials highlighted that the diplomatic initiative aims to enhance global mobility for citizens while deepening international partnerships.

The newly active agreements cover all primary categories of Ghanaian travel documents, including Ordinary, Service, and Diplomatic passports. However, permitted duration limits vary depending on the specific destination selected by the traveler.
Under the agreed terms, Ghanaian citizens visiting the Republic of Maldives or the Republic of Zambia enjoy stays up to 30 days. Meanwhile, travelers heading to Antigua and Barbuda receive an extended allowance of up to 90 days.
“Eligible Ghanaian passport holders may travel to these countries without obtaining an entry visa, subject to the terms and conditions of the respective agreements,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated.
Additionally, the ministry noted that these arrangements reflect continuous diplomatic engagement to reduce travel friction for Ghanaian business professionals, tourists, and official delegations.
Compliance and travel guidelines for Ghanaian citizens
Despite the waiver implementation, foreign affairs officials cautioned that citizens must strictly observe local immigration laws in destination countries. Specifically, travelers must hold valid passports alongside supporting entry documentation required by border control agencies.
Furthermore, visa-free access applies solely to short-term visits such as tourism, business meetings, or transit. Consequently, individuals seeking permanent residence, academic enrollment, or formal employment must apply for appropriate work or study permits.
“Travellers intending to undertake employment, study, residence or any other activity for which a permit or specific authorisation is required must obtain the appropriate approval from the relevant authorities,” the ministry advised.
Ultimately, the Foreign Affairs Ministry urged citizens to double-check destination health and border requirements with relevant embassies prior to departure. By expanding visa-free travel networks, Ghana continues to elevate the global standing and functional utility of its national passport.
