On the night of 28th November, Accra experienced a historic cultural milestone as the inaugural RocAfrik Music & Arts Festival, organised by Apprise Music & Media, delivered a breathtaking main concert at the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum. What unfolded beneath the open night sky was far more than a music event — it was an exhibition of identity, memory, artistic passion, and shared heritage.
From the very first note, the atmosphere was alive with electricity and emotion. Every performer offered not just music, but meaning — channeling rhythms and stories that reverberated through both Ghana’s cultural legacy and the broader global diaspora.
A Cultural Masterpiece: Abiana × Auļi
The defining pinnacle of the evening was the extraordinary collaboration between Ghanaian vocalist Abiana and Latvia’s powerhouse folk ensemble Auļi.
Their live presentation of the debut Voices of Ghana EP was transformative.
- Abiana’s soulful, angelic voice carried ancestral grace and emotional depth.
- Auļi’s booming drums and bagpipes roared with primal force — timeless and elemental.
Together, they merged Baltic folk thunder with Ghanaian melodic warmth, creating a transcendent performance that felt both ancient and new. The audience didn’t simply hear music — they felt it — deep in their chests and in their cultural spirit. The applause was thunderous, sustained, and heartfelt.
Special Opening: Dance & Devotion
The evening began with a reverent cultural invocation as traditional dancers opened the ceremony with choreography rooted in heritage and ancestral honor. This was followed by Michael Saba, whose moving gospel performance set a spiritual and uplifting tone for the night — aligning the audience into a collective mood of grace, gratitude, and purpose.
Artists Who Set the Stage Ablaze
The lineup brought energy, emotion, and originality in equal measure:
- King Eazie — charismatic, rhythmic crowd engagement.
- Ayizam — a grounded fusion of contemporary expression and cultural authenticity.
- Osagyefo — roots-driven reggae and dancehall with historical soul.
- Ras Caleb Appiah-Levi — spiritual reggae with veteran confidence.
- King Nzema — electrifying performance style and engaging artistry.
- Rob Roy — classic stage presence with a timeless 70’s character of sound.
- Nativ Afrik — a powerful cultural showcase that elevated the night’s energy.
Every artist contributed to an atmosphere where many styles became one voice — a shared artistic heartbeat.
Akuna Wallet: A New Layer of Participation
In a modern twist, festival attendees who downloaded and engaged with Akuna Wallet were entered into live cash giveaways during the event. Cheers rose as winners were announced, blending digital innovation with cultural celebration and audience connection.
A Beginning That Will Shape the Future
To host RocAfrik at the resting site of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah was profoundly symbolic — grounding the night in themes of liberation, legacy, and national pride. Under the silent watch of Ghana’s first President, a new cultural tradition began — one that will continue annually.
