The Ghana Police Service and the family of COP Kwasi Mensah Duku (Rtd.) are mourning following news that the former Ashanti Regional Police Commander Duku is dead.
The retired Commissioner of Police passed away at the Police Hospital in Accra on Tuesday, September 8, 2026. He was receiving treatment for an illness before his demise.
Career and Legacy of COP Kwasi Mensah Duku
Born in 1957, COP Kwasi Mensah Duku (Rtd.) was a native of Goaso in the Ahafo Region. Known affectionately by family members as “Kwasi Broni,” he built a distinguished career spanning decades within the Ghana Police Service.
During his active service, COP Duku held critical administrative and operational positions. He served as the Regional Police Commander for the Upper West, Western, and Ashanti Regions. His leadership in these regions gained him widespread respect across the security hierarchy.
His dedicated service led to a significant promotion in 2019. Based on recommendations from the Police Council, former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo promoted him to the rank of Commissioner of Police (COP). He subsequently retired in 2021 after serving as the Ashanti Regional Police Commander.

Family member Kwame Asare Boadu confirmed the news of his death to the public. He described the late senior police officer as an esteemed brother, son, and cousin who contributed immense public value to Ghana.
