AJ Auxerre midfielder Elisha Owusu has one clear goal in mind: to play for Ghana at the 2026 World Cup. The talented midfielder, who missed recent Black Stars call-ups due to injuries, is now fully fit and motivated to fight for his place. He told Flashscore, “I want to be in the team [for the World Cup Qualifiers]. I will do my maximum to be in the team.” ghanaweb.comModern Ghana

Owusu made his national team debut in the crucial 2022 World Cup playoff against Nigeria. That match helped Ghana secure their place at the Qatar tournament. Despite this strong start, injuries soon disrupted his momentum and limited his opportunities to wear the national jersey again.

Currently, the Black Stars top Group I with 15 points from six games. They have positioned themselves well ahead of Comoros and Madagascar, setting the stage for a strong push toward qualification. September’s back-to-back matches will be key. Ghana travel to face Chad on September 4, then host Mali at Accra Sports Stadium on September 8. These qualifiers could cement Ghana’s World Cup hopes.

For Owusu, the message is clear. He’s not just waiting for a call-up—he’s pushing for one. He’s focused on form, fitness, and doing enough to make coach Otto Addo’s squad selection but notes, “we’ll let the coach decide.”

Standing at the peak of his game in France’s Ligue 1, Owusu understands competition for spots will be fierce. But he believes in his ability to contribute both defensively and creatively. His story resonates with many Ghanaian players abroad—those ready to step up when the moment arrives.
