Accra, Ghana – Derek Kingsford Ablorh, an accountant at Frankalson Ltd., has pleaded not guilty to accusations of stealing a total of GH¢1,545,502.00 from his employer over a two-year period. The case is currently being heard at the Dansoman Circuit Court.
According to prosecutors, the alleged theft occurred between January 13, 2023, and January 17, 2025, while Derek Kingsford Ablorh worked at Frankalson Ltd., a private company based in Kaneshie, Accra.
Internal Audit Exposes Theft
The company’s CEO, Kwadwo Boakye, reported that financial irregularities were first noticed on January 19, 2025, when the finance officer flagged daily shortages in the cash balance. An internal audit was conducted from January 3 to January 14, 2025, which uncovered a missing amount of GH¢224,502.00.
Following this discovery, the audit period was extended to cover the full two years. The final tally of missing funds reached GH¢1,546,502.00. The matter was then reported to the police, resulting in Ablorh’s arrest.
Partial Restitution and Court Proceedings
During the police investigation, Ablorh allegedly confessed and voluntarily returned GH¢550,000.00. The complainant accepted the repayment in writing to help sustain the company’s operations.
The case, led by Chief Inspector Christopher Wonder and Chief Inspector Kwadwo Aboagye, has now entered the court phase. Defence lawyer Kelvin Addo McQuaye filed a successful application for bail.
Strict Bail Conditions Imposed
Presiding judge Her Honour Halimah El-Alawa Abdul-Baasit granted bail set at GH¢1 million. The terms require three sureties—two of whom must be public servants—and property documentation to match the bail value. Ablorh is also mandated to report to the police every two weeks.
Case Sent to Attorney-General’s Office
Because the total amount involved exceeds the jurisdiction of the local prosecutor, the case docket has been forwarded to the Attorney-General’s office for further legal advice. The next court hearing is scheduled for August 20, 2025.
