Crystal Palace are in discussions with French club AS Monaco about the possibility of bringing Ghanaian centre-back Mohammed Salisu to the Premier League on loan this summer. Palace are seeking to reinforce their defence, especially as current centre-back Marc Guéhi is linked with a transfer to Liverpool. Meanwhile, Salisu hasn’t featured yet this season for Monaco and is looking for more consistent playing time.
Olympiakos from Greece are also in discussions with Salisu’s camp, so Palace aren’t the only club vying for his signature. What’s Salisu’s background? The 26-year-old defender (born April 17, 1999, in Kumasi, Ghana) joined Monaco in 2023 after moving from Southampton. He signed a five-year deal and has made several appearances, although injuries and competition have limited his game time recently.
As of now, no final agreement has been reached. Salisu remains focused on Ghana’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers scheduled against Chad (September 4) and Mali (September 8) with the national camp opening in Accra on September 1.
Crystal Palace’s interest isn’t unexpected as Salisu is a promising left-footed centre-back with previous Premier League and international experience. The coming weeks will be telling, especially as both club and country priorities begin to unfold.
