Four suspects appear in Ghana cocaine case

The Ghana cocaine case has taken a new turn after four suspects were arraigned at the High Court in Accra over an alleged cocaine export operation.

The accused persons are Desmond Koranteng Curiel, also known as “Paul Kweku Yeboah” or “Biggs”; Musah Attah, alias “Kromo”; Kweku Otchere; and Jessica Hartog.

They appeared before the court on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, and were remanded for four weeks.

The four suspects are expected to return to court on October 13, 2026.

    Accused persons face two charges

The accused persons are facing two charges linked to the alleged exportation of narcotic drugs.

The charges are conspiracy to commit a crime and the exportation of narcotic drugs without a licence issued by the Minister of Health.

The charges were filed on the same day as their court appearance.

A fifth suspect, Dutch national Jos Leijdekkers, also known as “Bolle Jos”, is reportedly still at large.

The authorities have linked Leijdekkers to the alleged shipment and are seeking further information about his suspected role in the case.

    Cocaine shipment seized in France

The case follows the seizure of nearly 3.9 tonnes of cocaine by French customs authorities.

The drugs were discovered at the northern French port of Dunkirk on September 10, 2026.

The consignment reportedly had an estimated street value of €225 million.

According to reports, the cocaine was concealed inside a container carrying plastic waste that had arrived from Ghana.

Part of the shipment was allegedly intended for Antwerp in Belgium.

The seizure triggered investigations in both France and Ghana.

    NACOC investigates alleged export operation

Following the seizure, the Narcotics Control Commission announced the arrest of three suspects in Ghana.

NACOC alleged that the suspects had represented or facilitated the activities of Dutch fugitive Jos Leijdekkers in Ghana.

The commission subsequently began working with French authorities to obtain more information about the seized consignment.

The cooperation is expected to help Ghanaian investigators establish how the shipment allegedly left Ghana and reached France.

The latest court proceedings have now formally placed four Ghanaian suspects before the court.

However, the allegations have not been proven, and the accused persons are entitled to the presumption of innocence until determined otherwise.
