A 45-year-old White man, widely seen in the now-viral video of a brutal street brawl in downtown Cincinnati, is facing a disorderly conduct charge. Police say he is also considered a victim under Marsy’s Law, which keeps his identity private.
The altercation occurred on July 26 at Fourth and Elm Streets. It quickly gained national attention when bystander footage showed the violent beating of two people, including a woman who was knocked unconscious.
Despite being labeled a victim, investigators charged him with a fourth-degree misdemeanor. He is now scheduled to appear in court on August 26. Police explain that anyone involved in the violence may face consequences—regardless of how the incident began.
City and law enforcement officials have responded firmly. Mayor Aftab Pureval condemned the violence and stressed that no one involved in the fight will escape accountability. Police Chief Teresa Theetge echoed this, emphasizing that the investigation remains open and exhaustive.
Holly, the woman captured in the video, later shared that she is still recovering from severe brain trauma. She called the “incident” label insulting and said neither the police chief nor the mayor has reached out to apologize. A public fundraiser for her recovery has raised over $350,000.
