What was meant to be a thrilling headline act turned into controversy after Black Sherif’s much-anticipated performance at Unifest 2025 in Takoradi saw significant delays—and now, the organisers are speaking out.
On the night of June 22, chaos briefly erupted at the Takoradi Mall Event Center when fans, frustrated by the long wait, began hurling water at the stage. The target of their anger? Black Sherif, who arrived hours after his scheduled time.
In the aftermath, fans took to social media to vent, making Black Sherif a trending topic for all the wrong reasons. But according to event organisers, the delay was not entirely their fault.
Speaking on the issue, one of the show promoters, Mutombo, revealed that the artist’s team rejected an agreed GH¢300,000 payment just an hour before the performance. Instead, they reportedly demanded an additional GH¢50,000 before Black Sherif would step on stage.
“We paid this guy GH¢300,000, and he refused to mount the stage. They were asking for an extra GH¢50,000, and for about an hour, they kept deliberating on this extra money,” Mutombo shared in a radio interview.
YB, another organiser, offered more context in an interview on YFM. He said the artist’s management also raised issues with the stage setup, claiming it didn’t meet their technical standards.
“They have their standard, and the stage didn’t meet it. They made several complaints. I didn’t include production details in the contract, though. Still, the management wasn’t satisfied with the setup,” YB explained.
The team behind Unifest insists they did their part, but the situation spiraled due to unforeseen demands and disagreements backstage. While fans may feel shortchanged, the organisers hope the full story helps put things in perspective.
